Samsung LN46A550

July 21, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

User-friendly and a certified eye candy–two reasons why this TV set is an excellent choice.

Save for some minor slips like images on shown on the set that’s lacking detail and user’s manual isn’t completely helpful, the Samsung LN46A550 is almost a complete package. It is easy to see that this TV is almost perfect.

First up is an image test. We scouted nine 46- and 47-inch high definition sets .And among these; it is the one from Samsung that got attention. This set particularly got a high rating for its Blu-ray discs. The set makes pictures look like they’ve come straight from 35mm print as shown when we Read more

Toshiba 46XF550U

July 21, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

The highly expensive High Definition TV that has underwhelming features is found lacking when it is compared to others of its kind.

It isn’t readily understandable to us how Toshiba might consider its 46XF550U to be already worth selling for two thousand five hundred dollars. With the forty-six and forty-seven inch High Definition TVs included in our 2008 tests for image quality, the model came in at number 5 out of the 9 contenders.

The judges that we had for image-quality have noticed an overly yellow color for the people appearing in our “According to Jim” segment. Though another judge had found that the clip Read more

Samsung LN-T4061

July 21, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

The Samsung LN-T4061 looks very much like the HP-T4264, after all they both came from the same manufacturer. But they don’t seem to have only the manufacturer in common because their features and technology are almost identical. On the tests, both HDTVs managed to get almost the same marks.

Although the Samsung LN-T4061 is smaller than the HP-T4264, they are both the same when it comes to menu, design, remotes, etc. Another difference between those two would be the fact that Samsung LN supports 1080p and has an LCD panel, while the other uses a plasma screen.

This product is a bit above average compared to other products in its category. During the tests it managed to get a satisfactory score but it’s far from being on the first places. Everything looked Read more

HP PL4272N

July 21, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

The PL4272N isn’t the best product in the world when it comes to HDTVs, however it turned out to be a fairly good product for a low price if you aren’t too picky. The resolution is not the best you can find; the 1024 by-768-pixel keeps it from being a better option on the market.

The visuals can be eye damaging, they tend to have a pink color, especially when showing people’s skin. That looks unnatural and gives an artificial touch to the whole scene. If you are a master in visual settings maybe you can remove that by manually setting your TV’s colors.

The menu is quite organized and may seem familiar to the people who bought the Read more

Alternative Energy from the Ocean

July 19, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) was conceived of by the French engineer Jacques D’Arsonval in 1881. However, at the time of this writing the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii is home to the only operating experimental OTEC plant on the face of the earth. OTEC is a potential alternative energy source that needs to be funded and explored much more than it presently is. The great hurdle to get over with OTEC implementation on a wide and practically useful level is cost. It is difficult to get the costs down to a reasonable level because of the processes presently utilized to drive OTEC. Ocean thermal energy  …….. Read more

Alternative Energy for the Home

July 19, 2008 by neotech · Leave a Comment

The trend toward homes that are powered by alternative energy sources, ranging from wind turbines and solar collection cells to hydrogen fuel cells and biomass gases, is one that needs to continue into the 21st century and beyond. We have great need of becoming more energy independent, and not having to rely on the supplying of fossil fuels from unstable nations who are often hostile to us and our interests. But even beyond this factor, we as individuals need to get “off the grid” and also stop having to be so reliant on government-lobbying giant oil corporations who, while they are not really involved in any covert conspiracy, nevertheless have a stranglehold on people when it comes to heating their homes (and if not through oil, then heat usually supplied by grid-driven electricity, another stranglehold).

As Remi Wilkinson, Senior Analyst with Carbon Free, puts it, inevitably, the growth of distributed …….. Read more
